Port of Dover ED6 Berth Fender Systems Refit awarded to R&B

Marine fender systems play a key role in the safe berthing of a vessel and in stable loading/unloading as auxiliary equipment at the mooring facility. When the fender system is damaged or degraded, considerable economic losses can occur due to suspension or restriction of the mooring facility, which may affect the operation and maintenance of the entire port and facility.

As part of an extensive refit by the Port of Dover to overhaul and replace damaged sections to side and stern fender systems to ED6 berth, R&B have been awarded the contract to work in conjunction with Port of Dover and perform the necessary improvements to detect and replace damage to these units.

A total of ten side fenders along with four stern panels have been repaired and refurbished with a combined weight exceeding 350 tonne during an extensive period to ensure the continued operation of the UK's busiest passenger port and the busiest roll-on roll-off ferry port in Europe.
