Essential improvements at Sittingbourne WTW to reduce pollution risks

To comply with Environment Agency regulations, a solution was required to reduce any potential future pollution of Milton Creek from the storm tank if capacities were exceeded and increased the risk of overflowing.

R&B were commissioned by Southern Water to provide a solution to rectify the problem. This was achieved by providing a new design, manufacture and installation for a 6mm 2D screening platform and skip trolley system upstream, replacing the existing storm tank.

A new installation of outlet pipework from the Storm Screen to the Storm Tank and inlet pipework from Pumping Station to the Storm Screen were upgraded, together with associated storm pumps.

Locating the screens upstream of the storm tank will reduce any blockage of the storm tank, return pipeline and reduce storm spill frequency, reducing the risk of pollution into Milton Creek.
